Man Takes Oxycodone from Rite-Aid Pharmacy

Individuals working behind the bank counter may feel a little safer as of late. Banks have taken a back seat to pharmacies as the destination of choice for robberies. While some individuals still seek cash, the street value of prescription drugs can often be more valuable than the latest bank hit.

It is unclear whether potential financial gain or an addiction led to a recent Rite-Aid robbery. The Port Clinton News Herald reported that a man has been taken into custody after robbing the Port Clinton Rite-Aid pharmacy. The man was caught after a four-mile chase that resulted in his crashing his truck in a wooded area.

The man managed to escape the truck and flee on foot, but only briefly. Officers quickly overtook him, detaining him while they waited for an ambulance to arrive. The suspect has not yet been identified by police, but was taken to Magruder Hosptial.

The incident in question at the Rite-Aid occurred that afternoon. The pharmacy counter cashier reported that the man entered the pharmacy, approached the counter and talked with employees. He then went behind the counter and helped himself to roughly eight bottles of Oxycodone pills.

Leaving the pharmacy through the back door, the man was then chased by two employees. The man was described as simply white and bald. Police were able to pick up his trail and caught him shortly after he wrecked his truck.

This was not the first hit on the Rite-Aid. A gunman, acting alone, subjected the pharmacy and its employees to an armed robbery in 2009.
