San Diego's Oxy Task Force Holding Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

The Oxy Task Force of San Diego County launched its public education campaign to address the rising issue of prescription drug abuse, which claimed more than 50 lives in San Diego County last year.

The education campaign includes the use of posters, Public Services Announcements (PSAs), and community presentations. The Task Force is made up of partners representing the policy, education, health, and enforcement community.

As part of their efforts, this Saturday, October 24th, from 9am to 1pm, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Office of County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price and the entire Oxy Task Force, will be hosting a prescription drug Take-Back Day at five locations throughout the county.

The Task Force wants to spread the word and encourage the citizens of San Diego to take a proactive approach to this problem by dropping off their unused or unwanted prescription drugs. Oxy Task Force partners including prevention and treatment groups will be on hand at each location to offer information to attendees.

Sixty percent of teenagers indicate that it is easy to get prescription drugs at home; the Oxy Task Force wants to make it much more difficult and to see that statistic drop.
