Sylvester was arrested at the Headache and Pain Management Clinic in Fort Myers The Lee County Sheriff’s report said that the woman was hiding information from area doctors so she could get multiple prescriptions. They placed an alert to pharmacies and doctor’s offices.
Sylvester had managed to get 69 prescriptions from six different doctors over a one-year period starting in January 2009. The prescriptions were for Oxycodone, Oxycontin, Alprazolam, Roxycodine, and Medroxyprogestrone. Some of the multiple prescriptions were written on the same day and used on the same day.
The detective wrote that Sylvester had violated the law 23 times by seeing more than one doctor within a 30-day period.
Florida has had some controversy in recent months over pain management clinics that many believe are simply pill shops that make access to highly addictive narcotic drugs easy for drug addicts and abusers. These pain clinics have earned the nickname, “Pill Mills.”
